The Buffery® Tuxedo Sharp Coat is the formal version of our Sharp Suit Coat distinguished by a satin facing and satin buttons.
It used to be that wealthy men were required to change from their dusty sporting tweeds into crisp black tailcoats for dinner in the evenings, paired with white pique vest and matching tie, thus the term "white tie and tails."
Queen Victoria's playboy son, Prince Edward VII, wanted something less formal for evenings at his country house, so his Savile Row tailor lopped off the tails and created the first dinner jacket, in blue, worn with a black tie instead of white.
Legend has it a wealthy American friend went to the Prince's tailor and asked what would be appropriate to wear for dinner while visiting the Prince, and had a dinner jacket of his own made. Upon returning to the U.S., the new fashion became a hit with other members of the Tuxedo Park, NY, country club set and the new dinner dress code known as "Black Tie" was born.
What we now know as formal wear was initially meant to be informal, and what was then considered formal is pretty much reserved for presidential inaugurations and dinner with the Queen (white tie).

Buffery® Flex Uniforms™ is proud to offer free shipping on all orders in the continental United States! We also ship internationally, as well as to PO Boxes, and Military (APO/FPO) addresses. Orders of products On Hand take 2-4 business days to process before they are shipped from our warehouse in upstate New York.

Returns can be made within 30 days of the order delivery date for refunds to process to the original form of payment.
